An English friend asks ...

When is the cricket season in India?

Comments, anyone?

Well ,it usually starts in July/Aug..after the monsoon season.

The next time you get to see the Indian team in action, will be in August, when they take on Sri Lanka and West Indies ( ODI series).

Actually there is no well defined "season". The Ranji trophy (local league) has a schedule but international matches (more popular) are scheduled based on the free time in the calendar of the teams involved. These are typically decided years in advance. So for example the Indian team know whats the schedule for the next 5 years. They generally try to avoid the monsoon season to prevent washouts. BTW the English league is popular with players from all cricket playing nations.

Thanks for the answers (says the English friend who asked the question). It's just that when Jonathan started talking about rain, I automatically thought of cricket ... sad, really :-)
